Operation Warm (Past Project)

SEKRI has formed a business relationship with non-profit organization Operation Warm. Founded in 1998, Operation Warm produces coats for children in need across the United States. For the past three years, they have manufactured coats both overseas and in U.S. manufacturing companies. The partnership between SEKRI and Operation Warm was launched in March 2016.

Operation Warm began when its founder, Dick Sanford, saw a need for warm coats for at-risk children in his community. Brand new coats are produced for the children instead of supplying them with gently used coats, ensuring that each child will take pride in owning their own coat. The winter coats promote education, wellness, and positive social change. Bright colors and durability are a top priority so that they would not only be long lasting for the children, but colorful and fun as well.

SEKRI employees are thrilled to be part of the Operation Warm production team and their mission. For more information and to contact the organization about sponsorship, visit OperationWarm.org/Partnerships

SEKRI actively seeks commercial customers who are passionate about the MADE IN USA label.

Contract Packaging & Fulfillment

SEKRI has worked with many companies throughout the region in its quest to broaden its scope of work. We have gained valuable experience working with companies in the areas of automotive part assembly, acoustics, sorting, relabeling, sourcing, warehousing, and packaging.

Through experience gained in the Vendor Managed Inventory Program with Lockheed Martin, SEKRI established a computerized inventory solution to help us monitor the items we have warehoused for Lockheed. This same type of program will be expanded and applied to track the needs, usage, and stock levels for the procurement, integration, and distribution portions of the inventory needed to support the Contract Management Services.

Warehouse, Inventory Management & Logistics

SEKRI provides for the physical security, customer order fulfillment and delivery of inventory to clients facilities.  SEKRI has also been granted clearance to enter secured government facilities.

Through experience gained in a Vendor Managed Inventory Program with our customers, SEKRI established a computerized inventory solution to help us monitor the items we have warehoused for those particular relationships.  This same type of program can provide the foundation for expanded abilities to track the needs, usage, and stock levels for the procurement, integration, and distribution portions of the inventory needed to support the Contract Management Services.

ISO Certification

UPDATE: In the month of September 2019 SEKRI changed their ISO Registrar to IsoTec Alliance. During the transformation SEKRI underwent a complete ISO Recertification Audit. SEKRI is now registered with IsoTec Alliance and looks forward to working with them to maintain ISO compliance in the future.

UPDATE: SEKRI was awarded the 9001:2015 ISO certification. The company passes a rigorous audit through their registrar, Perry Johnson.

UPDATE: SEKRI recently received the certification for the latest ISO registration, ISO 9001:2008. The company passed a rigorous audit through their registrar, Perry Johnson.

Southeastern Kentucky Rehabilitations Industries, Inc. (SEKRI) received the ISO 9001:2000 certification from registrar Perry Johnson on January 18, 2008.

Prior to receiving certification, the company underwent extensive auditing. Three representatives of Perry Johnson spent 80 hours over a three-day period auditing 4 of the organization’s 7 locations. In order to maintain ISO 9000:2001 certification, SEKRI will undergo regular audits to ensure the quality policy and procedures, put into practice by company employees, are being followed.

ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is a quality management system that requires companies to follow standardized quality procedures. This, in turn, assists companies as they strive to produce the highest quality products possible.

“Receiving our ISO 9001:2000 certification allows SEKRI to seek contracts that require this certification. This will assist company executives as we strive to provide employment opportunities for people with severe disabilities in the region,” said Interim Executive Director, Norm Bradley.

Currently SEKRI operates seven manufacturing plants in southeastern Kentucky and in Jellico, Tennessee. The non-profit organization provides competitive employment for people with severe disabilities and primarily manufactures military clothing and items under government contract. With the new certification, SEKRI can seek out private contracts as well.

The company currently employs around 700 people producing 18 different products. From Protective Combat Uniforms (HALYS Gear) made for the Special Operations Forces, to the IFAK (Improved First Aid Kit), SEKRI employees work diligently to make quality products for our nation’s troops. Additionally, SEKRI is one of the leading producers of the military cover (caps and hats) manufacturing over 3.5 million per year.

“We are very proud of all our employees,” said James McWhorter, Director of Quality Management. “It took effort from everyone to achieve this goal. I know I am proud of our employee commitment to ISO 9001:2000 and I am certain that our employees are proud of their achievement.”

ISO is the world's largest developer and publisher of International Standards. ISO is a network of the national standards institutes of some 157 countries, with a Central Secretariat in Geneva, Switzerland, that coordinates the system. More than 100 of ISO's members are from developing countries.

ISO standards are voluntary. As a non-governmental organization, ISO does not regulate or legislate. However, countries may decide to adopt ISO standards as regulations or refer to them in legislation.
