History
SEKRI was established in 1971 by Oscar Haulk, a local educator, who saw a need for employment and educational opportunities for local individuals with disabilities or other barriers to employment.
Over the years, SEKRI has evolved from operating soup kitchens and reupholstering furniture to what is now a seven plant manufacturing company employing around 650 people. Roughly 75% of those are severly disabled.
Today SEKRI creates jobs through the AbilityOne Program, which coordinates government purchase of products and services provided by nonprofit agencies whose workforce is comprised of a minimum of 75% disabled individuals.
The organization currently manufactures around 20 different government contracts providing the US military with hats, caps, first aid kits, protective apparel, cold weather uniforms, t-shirts and more.
In addition to government contracts, SEKRI also provides manufacturing solutions to commercial customers and is currentlly carrying the commercial Pprotective Combat Uniform (PCU) under the brand name HALYS.
